Day 30: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. –Ralph Waldo Emerson

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!! Day 30!!!!

Wow, can you believe it? Day 30 is here! How are you feeling? I wish I were Oprah and could buy everyone schools, or take you to Africa, or send you a NEW car…heck…maybe even just a Starbucks card…but those days will have to wait. For today – I just want to say – YES!!!!!

But before we celebrate too much – there is still work to be done. Okay, after making that gratitude list for Day 29 – you better be feeling a lot better. I would love to hear from some of you what that list is looking like! What new showed up on that list that wouldn’t have been there 30 days ago? Share it with me – or post it in the community!

Day 30: The YES 30!
Your assignment for today is two-fold. I actually forgot to mention one part in the video. So, part one is to open the letter you wrote to yourself on Day 1 – and just reflect on that letter. While you are in that listening and reflecting space…take some time and then answer these three questions…

1) What three things challenged you most over the last 30 days?
2) What are the three biggest insights you discovered from the last 30 days?
3) What three things are you committed to for the next 30 days?

Optional…4) What does YES mean to you today?

So, we are looking back, reflecting in the present, and then looking ahead. This is the end of one chapter – but just the beginning of your next YES! Whether you decide to continue on with the “YES and” program or not – you can’t change what you have done in the past 30 days!

Conference Call: I have set up the conference call on freeconference.com for Thursday night. The call will begin at 9pm, ET – and we will let it run as long as it needs to go. We can spend time sharing from our 3 questions for today – as well as anything else you all want to talk about. Here is the info:
Dial-in Number: 1-940-287-4000 Texas
Participant Access Code: 246810

I need your help!: I can’t tell you how much joy this has brought me facilitating 30 Days of YES. I think we found something here – and I am committed to seeing where it goes. I was in a lunch meeting yesterday, and my friend kept mentioning “When you’re on Oprah.” I had to interrupt him and laugh, thanking him for seeing me on Oprah. It is safe to say he sees the potential of this as well. I am not concerned about Oprah, but I feel inspired to see what 30 Days grows into. I have my ideas – but I need your help. I will be sending an e-mail tomorrow asking for some feedback, maybe a testimonial if you can, and possibly a picture of you  I in no way feel I have this plan “figured out” – so I am going to really look for your feedback to help develop this idea further from here. Thank you in advance.

It’s a YES-olution!: My friend Evan shared this article with me today – and of course I need to share it with you all:
http://odewire.com/181227/capture-the-spirit-of-yes.html

And, it looks like we might have a theme song:

YES – YES – YES!!!!!!!!!

Okay – I think that is all for now! There is much more to say…but…YES 

Day 29: It's All Good!

If you aren't good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you'll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren't even giving to yourself.
-Barbara De Angelis

Happy Day 29 everyone!
Day 29…my, my, my! How far we have come…yet we are not done yet! How did Day 28 go…and all of those hugs? I watched the videos again that I included in the e-mail and was inspired to make my own “FREE HUGS” sign. It allowed me to gather over 30 hugs in very little time – and I had a lot of fun doing it. What was your experience like? Please share with the community!

Day 29: It’s All Good!Today, your activity is to turn your hug inward – and love yourself! Take some nice reflection and listening time today – and then list all of the things you are grateful for in your life – RIGHT NOW! Make the list as long as you can – and try not to leave anything out – even the small things! If you are having a hard time thinking of things…what?...what have you been doing for the past 29 days? Think of all the experiences over the last month – and think about what you are grateful for. Remember, no one else did these things for you – it was you!

Gratitude List: Once you have made your list – take a few moments to post one or two things in the blog thread!

Competition vs. Cooperation: Last week as I was talking about living Yes and…I spoke about the model of competition vs. cooperation. In December, before coming up with the idea for 30 Days of YES – I posted a vlog talking further about this model – and how we really want to pay attention to our relationships and see if we show up in a competitive or cooperative mindset. Here is the link to the vlog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TvfoBx0QzDc

YES and: Keep those e-mails coming! If you want to continue on after 30 days – please let me know so that I can put you on the new e-mail list. I will probably send one group e-mail inviting people to attend, but if I don’t hear from you after that – I will assume you don’t want to continue receiving e-mails. So, if you want to keep saying YES – let me know!

Overwhelmed: Phew! Who knew this simple idea of 30 Days of YES could be so complicated? As I allow this idea to grow, and start to put the framework of a business model around it – it doesn’t feel so simple anymore. It is all exciting – all invigorating – but after another brainstorming lunch – my head is still spinning! (Thanks Pete)

Not so fast: Once the 30 days is over – I will be soliciting you all for as much feedback as possible. This idea moving forward is going to build on the ideas you all share – and the value you received from taking on this challenge. I am so grateful for each of you – even if you have never shared or posted anything – I know you are out there! So thanks again!

Have a wonderful YES day!

Day 28: ...Not Drugs!

I will not play tug o' war. I'd rather play hug o' war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins. --Shel Silverstein

Happy Day 28 everyone!

Can you believe it – Day 28! I love the Silverstein quote from one of his poems – they are magical! And, I couldn’t resist the title for today…because we all remember the famed “Give Hugs – Not Drugs” campaign. Although I am not sure how many drug dealers were transformed on the spot by that alternative option – it would be great if there was big wealth in hugs! Maybe there is? Maybe people would be looking less to drugs for comfort if we lived in a world with a little more love and affection. So…

Day 28: …Not Drugs!
I recruited one of my nephew’s to help me with today’s video. Your activity today is to try to give as many hugs as possible. However you want to do it is up to you. If you want to tell people that this is part of an activity – that is fine. Or, you can just surprise the heck out of someone. It’s your call! I guarantee many of you are nervous about this assignment. I hope so. I am positive this will stretch you into your YES zone!

I can’t wait to hear what this brings up for all of you!

The Fast Lane: I was unable to do my fast until Saturday. So, I decided to not eat at all on Saturday, and was able to stretch it all the way until lunch on Sunday. I was able to not eat for 40 hours. Believe it or not – I didn’t deal with hunger as much as I did looking forward to the “activity” that eating and thinking about eating fills up in my day. Interesting. How did it go for you?

Unplugged: How did this work out for everyone? I was able to unplug completely for about 3 hours on Sunday. This was a very pleasant surprise – and I definitely need to do it more. I can see this being a bigger goal this summer for me!!!

Reminder: Remember, I will be scheduling the conference call for this Thursday night – and to also let me know if you want to continue on with the YES and program.

Hug Help: If you need some more hug inspiration to help you out – here are two of my favorite videos:

2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4

Have a wonderful YES hug-filled day!!!!

Day 27: YES Unplugged

This is perhaps the most beautiful time in human history; it is really pregnant with all kinds of creative possibilities made possible by science and technology which now constitute the slave of man - if man is not enslaved by it. ~Jonas Salk

Happy Day 27 everyone!
I just love that quote by Jonas Salk. It really makes you want to pause – shut your laptop (ironic since I am writing this on my laptop – and you are reading it on something electrical) – and unplug! Over these past 27 days we have been making time to pause – reflect – and notice. If we are not careful, technology can add to the distraction of life that allows us to be stimulated without having to be awake and conscious. I struggle with this all of the time.

Day 27: YES Unplugged
Your assignment for today is to unplug from your electronics for a minimum of 15 minutes. Can you turn off the iPod and TV, shut the laptop, and turn off your smart phone? For some of you 15 minutes might be a piece of cake – but I have a feeling it could be tough for some of us. If you really want to push yourself – challenge yourself to see how long you can go today without having to check a text, check your e-mail, check a score, watch a show, listen to a song, etc. How long can you go? AND, if you are not tuning in – what are you doing instead?!

I can’t wait to hear how it goes!!!!

Theme Song: Let’s keep posting those songs! I thought I would share mine. It is actually a tie between two songs from the same musical, Wicked. For awhile I would listen to "Defying Gravity" as my “take on the world” mantra song. But more recently, "For Good" represents the grace and perfection of appreciating every relationship and experience in our lives. It is perfect just the way it is – no regrets…ever! But, the tipping point came during Oprah’s final show – when her team surprised her with Kristen Chinoweth singing "For Good" to Oprah live in the United Center. As she sings, hundreds of young African-American men walk down the aisles carrying candles. These are all men Oprah provided scholarships for over the years. Even writing this gets me choked up! Here is the clip…enjoy:

YES Parenting: (Of course there will eventually be a 30 Day program for this :) A friend of mine sent me this wonderful example of thoughtful parenting – and the beauty and innocence of children – living their YES:

Have a great YES day!

Day 26: Theme Song

Life is a song - sing it. Life is a game - play it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life is a sacrifice - offer it. Life is love - enjoy it. –Sai Baba

Happy Day 26 everyone!!

Quick, go eat something! ;) How did your fast or mini-fast go yesterday? Remember, it’s not about “not eating,” but rather noticing what thoughts and feelings we experience when removing food. The truth is, we could remove any stimulus from our day and notice what shows up when we remove it. The important part of the activity is what we “notice” – it’s not about the actual activity 

Day 26: Theme Song
Haven’t you always wanted your own theme song? If so, what would it be? So, today, your activity is to find that one song that really is your “go-to” song. You can either treat this as your theme song – or the song that inspires you most. Make a point to listen to it a few times during the day – and let it inspire you. Take some time to reflect on what it is about the song that does it for you. Do some listening and journaling.

The Ultimate Playlist: Okay, EVERYONE NEEDS TO POST THEIR SONG!!!!!! Go to Youtube and find your song – and then post it in the blog thread. This could be an awesome playlist of everyone’s songs. So – share your song with everyone!!!! Just think of the new music that is going to inspire everyone!!!

Conference Call: Are you ready for another conference call? If you are on schedule, Day 30 will end next Wednesday. So, let’s plan on having a conference call next Thursday night – at 9pm, ET. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to get on the call and reflect on their experiences. Hopefully you can make it!!!

Keep signing up!: If you are in interested in the “YES and” program, or 30 Days of YES for Couples – send me your e-mail. Also, if you know anyone wanting to try 30 Days of YES for the first time – have them send me their e-mail.

Have a great YES day everyone!

Day 25: The Fast Lane

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be attained only by someone who is detached. --Simone Weil

Happy Day 25 everyone!!!!!

How did your day go talking to someone who inspires you? I loved this day!! I got the pleasure of hanging out with an inspiring group of men that I work with, and then was able to spend the rest of the night with three people who have provided so much inspiration in my life. Thank you Traci, Heather, and Sandy!!!! I hadn’t planned this visit in conjunction with the activity – but it sure worked out!

Also, back in Florida during the holidays – I took a few minutes to sit down and interview a friend of mine who has also been an inspiration. I recorded our chat – and I have attached it to this e-mail. So Evan – thanks again for sharing your inspiration with everyone!

What about you – who did you talk to???

Day 25: The Fast Lane
This will be a fun activity! Stretch yourself today to skip at least one of your normal meals. Can you skip two meals? What if you didn’t eat the whole day? The opportunity here is to spend time noticing the thoughts and power we give to food. So, what thoughts and feeling show up in your experience when you break your normal eating routine? That is your challenge for today.

Please take some time at the end of the day to journal and capture your insights. And of course – share them with the community!!!

YES and: I have begun to hear from some of you interested in continuing in the YES and group once we have completed 30 days. Again, if you are interested – send me your e-mail!

COMING SOON: What would it look like if you AND your partner lived YES together? So, starting sometime in February – we will be offering 30 Days of YES: For Couples!!!! Hollister and I will be co-facilitating this group – and will be going through the experience as well. So, if you and your partner are interested in that – please let me know!!!

Have a wonderful YES day everyone!
