Day 19: Another Man's Treasure...

Any half-awake materialist well knows – that which you hold holds you. –Tom Robbins

Happy Day 19 everyone!

Okay, I have spoken with a number of people who have gotten derailed in their 30 Days of YES. As I have said before, that is okay. And, as I mentioned at the beginning of this adventure – don’t be surprised if things try to pop up along the way that want to hinder or prevent you from achieving this. The excuses are many – but none of them are unique…such as…

“I don’t have the time…”
“I was travelling…”
“I overslept…”
“I forgot…”
“It’s too hard…”
“I’m not good enough…”
“I am not committed…”
“I’ll do it later…”
“I am not sure this is for me…”

If you are receiving this e-mail – you asked to be put on the YES list. If there are “no’s” popping up in your experience – excellent!!! Those are the same no’s getting in the way of living the kind of life you want to live – and being the kind of person you want to be. Your journey is your journey – no one else’s. Go back to the date you stopped – and START!!! If you need a kick-start, I would be happy to supply the boot ;)

Day 19: Another Man’s Treasure…We have been spending a lot of time taking stock of the thoughts and obstacles that clutter our thinking. The biggest part of the activities we are doing is about noticing the thoughts that come to the surface when we try to stretch out of our comfort zone. I just listed a whole batch of them above. Today, we are going to declutter some of the physical things in our life.

So, I challenge you to go through your clothes and get rid of at least 10 items you don’t need any more. Even if you wear it on occasion, do you still need it? Then, what can you do with your pile of clothes? Goodwill, a share box, or do you know someone who might need some clothes? Find the opportunity to repurpose your clothes forward!

YES and…I am in the process of thinking ahead to what happens after day 30. Yes, there will be something. In the meantime, do you know of anyone interested in participating in this 30 Days of YES program? If so, let them know that I plan on launching another 30 Days program in February. Spread the word!!!

YES!!!!!

Wanna hear something funny???

I just took some time to catch up on the "journaling" portion of the past five or so "30 Days of YES" days & have now had two occasions where I realize that, even though I outlined how the exercise "should" be completed to be successful (ex: finding an activity that would push me out of my comfort zone), I had actually completed it in totally different ways ---- interesting ;)

Two instances of this: Day #14 -- I was bound & determined to find the perfect book that I hadn't ever touched that I could crack open for 15 mins which would perfectly fit the assignment ...so, I actually didn't start until Sunday when I could make the time to sit down and begin "What's So Amazing About Grace?" (don't worry, hadn't opened Day #15 yet ;)) ...however, I am realizing that I had actually spent a good 15 mins the actual Day #14 evening reading three really inspiring articles out of Runner magazine which I gleaned a lot from -- but didn't think to count ...interesting!

Also, Day #15 -- I had taken an awesome pic the day before which I really wanted to use as the "picture I carried with me all day" (so I kind of did ;)) but was still searching for a super inspiring picture -- the perfect picture, if you will. Went to the beach by myself for one final San Luis Obispo, CA sunset ...which was actually really difficult, so I worked to support those around me (enjoying watching the surfers below as well, trying to glean inspiration from the ways they just trusted the ocean) and ended up taking a picture for this couple who was trying to awkwardly take it themselves. That's the one I am choosing to carry with me for the rest of the day. Took plenty more of the sunset and of the dinner we had with the family with whom we were staying ...let's just say, all of which would've fit the assignment ;)

One thing I did realize over break is that almost all of my highlights were things that I could've have planned or outlined -- soo, think I would learn that lesson after many gentle suggestions??? ;)
